Rediscovering hope
After my first weekend of canvassing, I felt tired and worried, and then I read Monica Hesse’s column and realized why I’m in this fight.
When I read Monica Geese’s column from Feb 10, I felt a little tear in my eye at the end. It’s about idealism and believing in what we could be, who we could be. “I believe in that America,” Elizabeth Warren says, and then she tries to convince the audience that they believe in that America, too.
I’m not giving up because I believe in an America without kids in cages, where everyone can have a shot at the American dream, where the government works for everyone, not just the corporate elite, and where there is healthcare for all.
I believe in an America where the person in the White House is intelligent and thoughtful, with a vision for the country to help people, not profit off them. I believe in a president who helps fix government corruption, and helps return us to a better moral place in the world.
Because we only have one shot, really. Each of us has one life to live on this planet. One chance to give it everything we’ve got to make it better, to grow from our mistakes, to work together and solve massive problems (climate crisis, healthcare inequity). One shot.
So with that I ask us to choose our presidential candidate out of this belief and hope, not out of cynicism and fear. This is our chance. Let’s do this. It matters. #DreamBigFightHard #LFG #Warren2020
