Canvassing part 2… two weeks later
And after a first effort at canvassing on February 8, Elizabeth Warren came back at the Nevada Debate on February 19, and reminded us of the fighter she truly is. She demonstrated how she would take on Donald Trump, by taking on Mike Bloomberg, and argued policy differences with other nominees. It was effective, and it inspired many of us to donate and brought life back into her campaign. Her supporters knew this person was there the entire time, but her performance that night helped the media to show her on the stage again, and for other people to see how effective she truly is.
February 22–23 was my next weekend of canvassing, and it ended with an rally in Denver for Elizabeth Warren. This time out, people were fired up, and several people I met told me they would vote for Elizabeth Warren. I’d do a happy dance on their doorstep each time I heard that. Many other residents were so kind, inviting me in from the cold, asking if I wanted a cup of coffee, no matter our political stripes. It was civility. It was neighborhood conversation and canvassing. It was fun.
When Elizabeth Warren spoke live at the Fillmore, I was reminded of this once in a lifetime candidate and how crucial it is to vote for her. She truly is the woman who can turn Washington DC around and make government work for the people. Her proposals are bold, but sound, and she has plans for financing them that are not completely unreasonable, when you look at them.
I think was motivates me the most about Elizabeth Warren is that she has a track record of leadership and getting things done. She predicted the housing crash of 2008, and lobbied Congress to build the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. People on both sides of the aisle liked her idea and also told her it would never get passed. So she took her idea to the unions: AFL-CIO, SEIU, and also NAACP and AARP. And everyone said, sure, we’d support that. And then with her coalition she went back to Congress and now with this coalition they were able to overcome the resistance from Wall Street and enact this government agency. It is evidence of her effectiveness, and just a taste of what she could do as President Warren.
This is the type of person who could bring coalitions together to help enact reform of the corruption in Washington, improve healthcare and get us closer to Medicare 4 All, face climate change, improve our immigration policy, and help us regain our moral standing in the world after the last 3.5 abysmal years.
As the South Carolina Primary and Super Tuesday approach, I implore people to truly look beyond polls and group think to read about each candidate, watch the debates, town halls, see them and ask yourself, who is the candidate who will best lead our party and defeat Donald Trump? And then vote your heart based on that. If people truly look at Warren in that mix, it’s hard to see the answer being anyone else come election day.
This was a great weekend. I canvassed, cheered, donated, and voted for Elizabeth Warren, and I hope you’ll join me in voting for her too.
